Find joy in a repetitive task

We all have our fair share of responsibilities that are boring, dull, and repetitive. You try to put them off, but you can’t. Once done with your repetitive tasks, you start to hate your duties even more and lose the motivation to go back to work again. This is entirely natural, and many people lose their joy in repetitive tasks. However, the problem is not with your job; it’s with your way of perceiving your tasks.

In this blog post, I will change your mind about repetitive tasks and teach you how to find joy in them. Moreover, you will start to like your job and wouldn’t want to switch to another one for a few years. So keep reading to discover my secrets to finding joy in repetitive tasks and learn how your “wax on – wax off” will pay off.

How Repetitive Tasks Can Help?

Everyone has a Mr. Miyagi in their life and we all hate that person. However, if you have seen “The Karate Kid” movie then you will remember that Mr. Miyagi was actually training his pupil to fight. So, before you get tired of my repetitive Karate Kid puns, let me explain how repeat tasks are good for you.

     1. Repetitive Tasks Are Better Than Doing New Things

If you think repeat tasks are boring, you haven’t faced the anxiety of trying something new. Sure, it sounds good in motivational speeches and uplifting blog posts, but, in reality, new tasks are challenging. They will be scary as your repetitive tasks were when you first got them. However, if you enjoy putting yourself in challenging situations, you can try to take up new tasks. However, if you are like me, you’ll probably stick to your routine.

     2. Repetitive Tasks Will Make Your Job Easy

Every task is unique with a specific method of performing. However, once a job becomes repetitive, our brain starts to find new ways to make things interesting. In this journey of discovering new ways to perform a task, people end up finding a more accessible alternative. When you know an easier way of doing that tasks, you’ll make your job easier.

     3. Repetitive Tasks Will Make You A Perfectionist

Our mind has a way to do things better the more we put them into practice. Therefore, repetitive tasks are registered in our subconscious mind, and we perform them without much effort. However, when at work, our conscious mind is fully awakened and we complete every task meticulously. When you perform repetitive tasks with your conscious brain, you start doing them more efficiently. People have mastered slicing vegetables better than 5 start chefs just by doing it every day for years.

How to Enjoy Repetitive Tasks?

Knowing repetitive tasks are helpful is one thing. But enjoying them is another matter. Most people already know that repetitive tasks will make them better at their job but they cannot enjoy them. Here are a few ways you can find joy in repetitive tasks.

     1. Find Your Motivation

Whatever the duty is, there must be a reason why you are chosen for it. Hold on to that reasons and make it your source of motivation in case you start losing your interest. Sometimes, employees are deliberately assigned repetitive tasks so that they either become perfect or find newer ways to accomplish them. Whatever the case, know that you are chosen for a reason, and the management didn’t draw sticks and randomly picked a person.

     2. Accept Your Fate

Repetitive tasks are tedious, and it’s hard to stay focused when you are doing the same thing repeatedly. However, if you be in the moment and focus on your task, you might be able to enjoy it. Even as a receptionist or a call center representative, people find joy in their tasks because they are in the moment and find creative ways to keep themselves entertained. Remember that you are the only person who can make your repetitive tasks fun. If you are not paying attention and working on ways to make your job entertaining, you can’t expect things to change.

     3. Accept Your Fate

Most times, you can’t find joy in repetitive tasks because you keep looking for a different job. It’s good to keep your options open and never stop job hunting. However, if you can’t find an opportunity worth switching, stop for a while. Sometimes, the job market isn’t doing so well to hire new people or your CV isn’t strong enough. Whatever the case, you need to accept your current job and keep doing it without feeling trapped.

Apart from jobs, entrepreneurs also face repetitive tasks, but they have learned to manage them. They find entertainment in their daily routine because they know these repetitive tasks will benefit them in the future. So, whether an entrepreneur or a salaried person, you need to train your mind and find joy in repetitive tasks. Because wherever you go, all functions at one point become repetitive.

The Bottom Line

As frustrating, repetitive tasks might seem, they are always beneficial for long-term growth. From salaried people to entrepreneurs, everyone has to complete repetitive tasks to become experienced in their field to achieve growth. If you aren’t enjoying your daily routine, try adding new things to it, like buying breakfast from elsewhere or taking a different route to work. However, love your job and keep doing what you are because growth comes to those who keep looking for it.
